Magic or Technology?
Look back into the stories from history and you’ll find references to the use of fingernails, hair, saliva and blood to uniquely identify a person. The purposes for which were magic in nature. The workings of which the average person knew little off other than through stories and "I heard about it from a friend of a friend’s third cousin’s boyfriend’s mother" type of grapevine.
Now jump ahead a whole whack of years (we’re Canadian so that’s a metric whack of years btw) to present day. Through the miracle of DNA science a person’s fingernails, hair, saliva and blood they can be uniquely identified. The purposes for which are technological in nature. The workings of which the average person knows little of other than through TV shows and "I heard about it from a friend of a friend’s third cousin’s boyfriend’s mother" type of grapevine.
