The Ponderings of a Big Foot Buddha 2003-07-21 - 8:39 p.m. Appendix Well what a fun month I've had so far. Let us start off with the six teeth I had pulled on July 2nd. Yep you heard right six. I orginally went to have the one in the front that I broke pulled before it got infected. While I was there I figured them couple of wisdom teeth should go too. plus that really bad cavity one & the wierd funky crooked one in the back. Actually having six teeth pulled in one go wasn't so bad I was over them the second day. But gods the anitbiotics I was given sure were messin' up my tummy badly. Felt like I had the flue for the next three days. Turns out that was just a flukey set of circumstnaces. Come late Friday night/early Saturday I was doubled over in pain with vomitting and diarrhea. So on Sunday morning I truck off to the nearest Hospital ER. By this time I was only feeling sharp pains and had sweats/chills and I could actually stay out of the bathroom now. After taking only three hours to be admitted and have a whack of tests run plus three bags of fluid IV'ed into me I had to wait another six hours for the doctor who had requested the tests to get enough free time out of his socializing (he chatted up nurses in front of my bed so I know he wasn't working) to briefly flip through my blood work (he didn't even look at the other envelopes with the other test results). Six hours I waited for him and all he did was glance at the bloodwork. After that he told me to go home and ride it out take Tyenol for the pain and gravol for upset stomach or use suppositories if I couldn't keep down the oral gravol. So I wandered off home. Come Monday morning I still didn't feel right and was sure something was wrong so I had my wife drive me to our other city hosptial. I took my test results from the first ER with me and the new hopsital ran another set set of test to compare results. Guess what same results except this time they decided I had acute appendicitis and booked me into the first availible operating room to get it removed. When they operated on my they discovered I had actually burst my appendix and it was removed in two pieces and the cavity full of pus and infection was pumped out. I spent the following week in the hospital hooked up to around the clock IV anitbiotics to fight the massive infection I had. Another week was spent at home in bed rest finishing up getting rid of the last of the infections. So three weeks later here I am back to work for one day already and happy to be there too. Here's the kicker if I had listened to Doctor #1 and had gone home to "ride it out" Doctor #2 said I might have lasted two more days before I died. Fun month eh?
